Shoplifter Arrested and Hot Weather Advice |
Dear Resident, Despite the unprecedented hot weather, Kentish Town officers have continued to take action against shoplifting in the local area. On Tuesday 23rd June, local officers in plain clothes observed a male acting suspiciously outside Sainsbury’s Local. The individual carried out a brief recce of the store exterior before entering. Once inside, officers noted that he made no attempt to pay for any items prior to leaving. However, he appeared noticeably “fuller” than when he had entered the shop.
Officers stopped and searched the individual under Section 1 of PACE, where 25 items of confectionery, with a total value of approximately £75, were found concealed inside his T-shirt. The individual was promptly arrested on suspicion of theft, and the case will now be progressed via the courts. This is another example of the proactive work your local ward officers are carrying out to tackle shoplifting and support businesses in Kentish Town. These patrols—often in plain clothes—allow officers to identify suspicious behaviour early and intervene quickly.
